Originally from Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, Maveric founded Wells Gray Outfitters with the goal of filling a gap in the local market where sports and outdoor recreation were a central focus of the community, but were not serviced by a sporting goods or outdoors retailer. Wells Gray Outfitters opened its doors on April 1, 2023, and Maveric has been at the heart of the business ever since, so much so that some locals fondly refer to WGO as "Maverick's."

Sports and the outdoors have always been a big part of Maveric’s life. Snowboarding, baseball and hockey have been lifelong passions, while as an adult he has discovered a love for mountain biking, nordic skiing and curling. He is also a baseball and softball umpire and a ski instructor, giving him plenty of opportunities to stay active and involved in local sports.

Before opening Wells Gray Outfitters, Maveric worked for Salomon, a brand that remains one of his favourites today. The Salomon Assassin snowboard is his favourite snowboard, while the Salomon X-Ultra hiking boots are a go-to for exploring the outdoors. He is also a big fan of the Warrior Covert hockey stick line, particularly for its combination of durability and performance.

When it comes to Wells Gray Provincial Park, Maveric’s favourite view can be found along the Eagle View Trail on Clearwater Lake. He loves that the experience combines a day on the water with a relatively short hike, with the reward being a nearly panoramic view overlooking Clearwater Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Spring is Maveric’s favourite season to explore Wells Gray Park. With high water levels, snow still covering the mountains and everything beginning to come alive for the new season, there is a unique energy throughout the park. Spring means roaring waterfalls, the possibility of a cheeky late-season ski tour and, of course, the first visit of the year to Hop ’N Hog.

As the owner of Wells Gray Outfitters, Maveric is passionate about building a business that is more than just a sporting goods store. He enjoys connecting with customers, supporting local sports and helping people find the gear they need to explore Wells Gray their own way.
